GOATS

Having our own herd of goats on the school property allows us to have milk for lunch and nutritious morning porridge each day! In addition, excess milk allows us the opportunity to share with women living in the nearby villages! The current years long drought has killed 80% of the cattle in the area, so hearty goats are a valuable resource!

BOOKS

Can you imagine having a school without a library? Neither can we! We are completing construction on a small library and dream of filling the shelves with books. Our students’ first language is Maa, but the national exams are in Swahili and English, so our library will be stocked with books in those languages.

SUPPLIES

Provide a student with all the necessary paper, pens, pencils and ruler they will need for an entire year!
one supply pack = $10

CLASSROOM

We have six classrooms and all are in use and some house two grade levels. As we are able to bring in more students, we will need additional classrooms.
1 classroom = $8,800

WATER

Water is essential and we are thankful to the nonprofit Maji Hope for digging our well! Donations to our water project will go to costs associated with a strong new pump and a guttering system. Rain is infrequent, so when it does rain, we want to be able to capture that rainwater and the guttering system will allow us to collect that water in a catchment tank.
costs = $2,600

ACRES

We are thankful to have 10 acres, which is sufficient for our needs at this time. There are 4 additional acres adjacent to our property that we would love to have for future growth. In the meantime, we could use the acreage to plant gardens for extra food for our students’ families and for the community!
4 acres = $1,300 FUNDED!

DORMITORY

Our most expensive project is the building of a dorm. Although our dorm will be a very basic structure, it will be comfortable and secure, with indoor plumbing. It will house 50 – 60 female students. Ormee School needs a dorm for many reasons, but the top reason is the safety of the girls. Many walk long distances to and from school and there are many dangers associated with those long walks. Also, the ability to house them on school property will help the girls prepare for important exams. Living close to their teachers and books gives them opportunities for tutoring and extra studying. Finally, staying in the dorm elevates their overall health and hygiene.
